Maintenance Committee & Procedures
The college has set up a dedicated committee comprising two full-time teachers, two non-teaching employees, and a student nominated by the principal. The body is tasked with the following functions:
- Regularly visit the college campus all across, both inside and outside the class rooms, and inspect the needs to improve upon.
- To open up the suggestions provided in the suggestion box and consider the suggestions.
- Conduct monthly meetings on every second Saturday and create a report of major demands.
- To attend the minor demands on the spot by taking necessary action, mostly of the nature of repairs, petty materials, cleaning, etc.
- To report the maintenance requirement regularly to the Principal for onward requirement and monitor for completion.
The minor demands are met with an inbuilt mechanic of store material and maintenance manpower by calling and getting them updated. Usually, that doesn't require additional finance and labor. The major requirements are estimated and placed to the Principal. The Governing Council takes cognizance and provides necessary requirements as the case may be or sometimes provides alternative possibilities. This system is working satisfactorily and is actively practiced.
Example Case Procedure:
- Letter by a student for the want of repair.
- Proceedings of the meeting to address and estimate.
- Letter to the Gov. council and reply to principal.
- Action taken document.
Utilization of Physical Infrastructure
The college premise has an area of 26 acres and 8 guntas. The college built-up space is about 4,24,400 sq.ft. It has 25 well-furnished and well-ventilated class rooms, 4 laboratories, 1 computer lab, 1 Auditorium hall, and a digital library to cater to the needs of both the UG and PG programs of the institution. The college has a well-furnished principal's room, attached to the office with computer systems.
Utilization of Library
The college has an independent, separate digital library. Regarding library instrumentation, we have purchased an OMNI DIRECTIONAL BAR CODE SCANNER for quick transactions to save time during circulation. All hard copies of the previous year's question papers in the library are uploaded to the college website for student usage.
Journals and magazines are given to the students on demand during scheduled times on the first floor of the library. The Library has adopted standard operating procedures for the usage of internet browsing and e-resources. Out of 10 computers in the library, five are used for internet browsing and five for digital information usage. LMS software is installed in the library to enable effective teaching and learning; teachers upload subject-related videos and PPTs to their LMS accounts.
Utilization of Laboratories
Science Laboratories
The college has an adequate number of well-furnished, well-ventilated, equipped laboratories for subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany. Lab practicals are conducted with the assistance of designated attenders as per the academic schedule timings with batches. Before the commencement of practical classes, students are given orientation about the discipline to be maintained, and how lab equipment and chemicals are to be handled with utmost care. If any damages occur, a penalty is collected from the concerned student. Necessary lab chemicals and apparatus are collected well in advance with prior permission of the HOD and HOI.
Computer Lab
The college has a separate computer lab with over 40 computers and internet facility, maintained by a qualified computer teacher. Students are given basic computer knowledge in both theory and practical aspects. As per CBCS norms, the computer subject is a mandatory paper for all III and IV semester UG students. Practical demonstrations are conducted with the help of smart boards and LCD Projectors. In case of technical issues, the college hires outside technical experts, though such situations are rare.
Classrooms & Sports Facilities
Classrooms
The college features a two-storied building designed as per the norms of the affiliated university. There are 25 spacious, well-furnished, and well-ventilated classrooms. Out of these, 14 classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors for PPT presentations alongside traditional chalk-and-talk teaching. After college hours, classrooms are utilized for seminars, special lectures, and institutional certificate courses.
Sports
The college has a vast, well-laid playground and a multipurpose Indoor Hall. Sports activities are supervised by the Physical Director, Sri Vinod C.M. Students are encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate, South Zone Inter-university, and All India Inter-University competitions. Achievers are rewarded with institutional certificates and medals. The college provides TA and DA for students participating in university-level events. The Indoor Hall is also used by staff during specified timings.
